Shedeur Sanders’ Mother Comments on His NFL Status
The mother of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders made a curious Instagram post on Friday, shortly after her son was named the team’s backup quarterback. Pilar Saunders shared a video of herself preparing a lavish seafood feast with fried shrimp and lobster. A comment on the post asked if her son cooked so well to earn the QB2 position.
Her response was a bit perplexing, filled with vague language and laughter, leaving many to wonder about its meaning. She mentioned that “2 is always 1,” and indicated that she wouldn’t be easily deceived by grand tales.
Shedeur, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has been in the spotlight since being drafted this past April. Following the Browns’ recent trade of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, speculation arose about whether Shedeur would ascend to a more prominent role or stay on the third string behind Bailey Zappe.
Interestingly, his draft journey took a surprising turn as he fell from being the top prospect to the 144th pick in the fifth round. Reports from the pre-draft period highlighted a particularly unfavorable interview, with an anonymous coach stating, “This was the worst formal interview I’ve ever had,” and criticizing Shedeur’s performance and attitude.
Adding to the intrigue, Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson commented in an August interview that teams were advised not to draft Shedeur, suggesting he was being used as an example of what can happen under certain circumstances. Dickerson claimed that a reliable source informed him of this directive.
Reactions to Shedeur’s situation have been polarizing, with some, like former President Trump, expressing disbelief over the decisions made by NFL owners. Trump emphasized Shedeur’s potential and called for a team to select him. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith even drew parallels between Shedeur’s case and that of Colin Kaepernick, hinting at possible collusion within the league.
As of now, Shedeur Sanders has not yet played in a regular-season game, but he could see action as early as this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers if starter Dillon Gabriel were to be benched for any reason.
