Comedian Adam Carolla Critiques Governor Newsom

During a recent episode of the “PBD Podcast,” comedian Adam Carolla took aim at California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, reacting to a 2013 interview between them.

In a viral clip, Carolla challenged Newsom on his assertion that approximately 50% of Black and Hispanic individuals in California lack checking accounts. After reviewing the interview, Carolla labeled Newsom a “sociopath,” suggesting that he distorts statistics for political gain.

“He’s a sociopath,” Carolla stated. “You have to be a sociopath to respond to a question like that. He asked me dozens of times about the situation of those without checking accounts. I mean, really, it’s hard to believe half of them don’t have access to one.

“He’s just feeding us BS. Honestly, do you think half the population in California is without a checking account today?” he continued. “Every time I pressed him for details, he just dodged.”

Carolla went on to express his frustration with Newsom’s evasive responses throughout the interview. He illustrated his point with a metaphor: “It’s like saying your house has a major termite issue. If you ask how to deal with it, and I only acknowledge the problem but don’t give you any solutions, that’s a failure on my part.”

He emphasized that it’s Newsom’s duty to address these pressing issues, highlighting California’s struggles under his leadership. “You’re supposed to be leading California, yet you say half the Black and Hispanic community lacks access to checking accounts. What’s your plan? Instead, he just wants to argue.”

Newsom has emerged as a prominent figure among 2028 Democratic presidential candidates, holding 21% support among registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, according to a Yahoo/YouGov poll conducted in early September.

However, Newsom’s leadership has faced scrutiny, particularly regarding the state’s ongoing issues with homelessness and crime. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, also a 2028 presidential hopeful, pointed out, “With the current homelessness crisis, crime rates, and cost of living in California, I can’t see how Gavin Newsom could win a presidential election.”

During Newsom’s time as governor, homelessness has escalated dramatically, with billions allocated to address the crisis. He attributed these challenges to state policies that hinder housing development.

Additionally, in March, he made a statement on his podcast claiming that neither he nor his agency uses the term “Latino.” However, CNN quickly presented evidence contradicting his claim, showing that he had used the term in the past.
