Chloe Kitts from South Carolina will miss the season due to an ACL injury.

South Carolina’s pursuit of another national title has hit a snag.

The university announced Monday that standout forward Chloe Kitts will miss the entire season due to a torn ACL in her right knee, with surgery planned for later this week.

Details surrounding how Kitts incurred the injury remain uncertain. The Gamecocks’ season is set to kick off on November 3rd.

Kitts, who started 38 games last season and was named MVP of the SEC Tournament, played a pivotal role in leading South Carolina to the national championship game in 2025, though they ultimately lost to UW 82-59. She was also part of the team that won the national title in 2024.

Despite this setback, South Carolina starts the season as a strong favorite, with odds at +220 on FanDuel, followed closely by UConn at +250.

The senior, standing at 6-foot-2, averaged 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds and was crucial in the paint for the Gamecocks, having started 31 games as a sophomore.

“This is the last thing I want for Chloe, who has worked incredibly hard this season to be the best version of herself on the court,” commented University of South Carolina coach Dawn Staley in a statement on social media. “Her teammates have the ability to step up. I know her competitiveness and tenacity will be felt from the sidelines as she gives them everything she can to ensure our team’s success.”

Following her injury, Kitts took to social media to express her thoughts.

“Thank you to everyone for the love and support,” Kitts posted on Instagram. “Although my senior season did not go as I expected, I trust in God’s timing and purpose. I will continue to lead, support, and push the team from the sidelines. We have big things ahead!”

Kitts is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, though it’s uncertain how this injury might influence her draft stock moving into the spring.

Additionally, Kitts, who is currently in a relationship with Raptors 2025 draft pick Collin Murray-Boyles, may consider returning to college instead of entering the draft.
