Andrew Thomas of the Giants faces a significant test against the league's top sack leader

Giants’ Andrew Thomas Shines After Injury Return

Jackson Dart seems to have stability on his blind side, thanks to the performance of Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas. Since coming back from a lengthy absence due to injury, Thomas hasn’t allowed any sacks, quarterback hits, or even many pressures—only two in total—during his first 130 pass-blocking snaps, as noted by Pro Football Focus.

This impressive stat sheds light on why Dart has felt confident navigating the pocket in his initial three starts. However, the upcoming game poses a significant challenge. The Giants’ offensive line faces a Broncos defense that tops the league in sacks (30), pressures (75), and pressure rates (32.9 percent).

The matchup to keep an eye on? Thomas versus Nick Bonitto, the NFL sack leader with eight to his name.

Reflecting on the challenge, Thomas remarked, “I know I’m a real competitor, and so are the other guys out there. We want to play against the best teams.” His enthusiasm indicates a readiness to take on formidable opponents.

Fortunately, it seems that the Lisfranc foot injury that sidelined Thomas for half of last season and the first couple of games this season hasn’t hindered him. He’s back to his game without any apparent setbacks.

Interestingly, Bonitto has encountered opposing left tackles in 226 out of his 233 snaps on the defensive line. Thomas noted, “First of all, his explosiveness. He’s really good off the ball. Quite fast rushers usually don’t have much power, but he can also power rush, so you have to be prepared for both.”

Thomas describes himself as a “perfectionist.” He’s hesitant to declare that he’s returned to his second-team All-Pro form from 2022. “I followed the plan that my trainers laid out for me, and I think it worked,” he shared. “I was concerned about getting back in shape; that’s the hardest part.”

Meanwhile, RB Cam Scatterbo had a standout performance with 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles, earning a nomination for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Player of the Week award.

Scatterbo will have competition for the award, facing other nominees like Patrick Mahomes and Drake Maye. Fans have until 3 p.m. Wednesday to vote through NFL platforms. If Scatterbo wins, a $2,000 donation will be made to a New York City food bank affiliated with the Feeding America Network.

In a separate storyline, LB Kayvon Thibodeau, who left Oregon just as Bo Nix joined, is gearing up to sack the Broncos’ quarterback. This will mark their first encounter on the field. Thibodeau commented, “I think he’s a great player. We’ve both been at the top of our game since high school, and I’ve seen him in various camps. I think he plays well, but we’ll definitely look to limit his impact on Sunday.”

On a viewing note, Prime Video recorded an average of 15.62 million viewers for the recent Giants vs. Eagles match, making it the fifth most-watched “Thursday Night Football” game since the service began exclusive coverage in 2022, despite competing with a Phillies vs. Dodgers baseball game.

Lastly, LB Jonas Griffith and WR Juice Wells Jr., Dart’s former teammate at Ole Miss, have been added to the practice squad.
