23-year-old woman fatally shot by friend while playing 'Russian roulette,' police say

A woman from Cincinnati was fatally shot in the chest by a friend who had suggested they engage in a game of “Russian roulette,” initially aiming the gun at her head, as reported by the authorities.

Omarion Horn, 23, was arraigned in an Ohio court on Friday after being charged with the murder of Rachel Counts, who was also 23.

Emergency responders arrived at a home in the Winton Hills area following reports of gunfire on the evening of October 5. Law enforcement officials confirmed this.

Despite the attempts of Cincinnati firefighters to revive her, Counts was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed that Counts was with Horn and their partners, and the group was playing cards at the time of the incident.

At one point, Horn produced a revolver and suggested they play “Russian roulette,” according to police. This involves loading a bullet into a gun, spinning the cylinder, and pulling the trigger while pointing the gun at someone.

Authorities mentioned that Horn pointed the gun at himself, though it was not clear if he pulled the trigger.

Subsequently, Horn allegedly aimed the revolver at Counts’ chest and fired.

“It’s unfortunate that some treat firearms like toys; if the facts are correct, this is truly a tragedy,” remarked Judge William Mallory.

Mallory established Horn’s bond at $1 million, with a grand jury appearance scheduled for Thursday.

Counts leaves behind her husband, Jarrod Brooks; her parents, Bill and Becky Counts; siblings Mandy Carlson and Will Counts; her grandparents Ann Dement, and Larry and Jo Ann Counts; along with numerous relatives and friends, according to an online obituary.
