Mitt Romney’s Family in Mourning Following Tragic Loss

Mitt Romney, the former presidential candidate and Utah senator, shared that his family is “heartbroken” after the discovery of his sister-in-law’s body in a Los Angeles suburb.

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought so much warmth and love to our lives,” Romney expressed in a statement. “We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

Carrie Elizabeth Romney was found deceased on the street near a shopping mall parking lot in Valencia, California, at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. She was 64 years old.

Authorities reported that her vehicle was located in a parking area close to the Hyatt Regency hotel.

Los Angeles County Deputy Brenda Serna mentioned in an email that it remains “unknown at this time” if Carrie “jumped or fell” from the parking lot or a nearby structure.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed her death on Friday, stating that the cause of death is currently “deferred,” pending further examinations. They indicated her body is “ready for release.”

Fortunately, authorities noted that foul play doesn’t seem to be a factor.

Carrie was married to George Romney, Mitt’s brother, who is 81 and a former state senator in Utah. He is notably the father of prominent lawyer and former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel.

Scott Romney, Mitt’s younger brother, recently filed for divorce after eight years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. It was reported that most of their assets were acquired individually before the marriage. Carrie is seeking spousal support, but her husband opposes it and has requested that she revert to her maiden name, Carey Elizabeth Dimas.

Details about when they initially met are unclear, though they got married in November 2016.

The couple seemingly kept their relationship out of the spotlight, avoiding social media and public appearances since 2012.

Should the divorce proceed, it would mark Scott Romney’s third marriage ending.

The 81-year-old is currently an attorney at Honigman, Miller, Schwartz & Cohn in Michigan and is involved with several boards, including Compuware Corporation.

Mitt Romney ran against Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election, receiving considerable public support but ultimately losing.

During his brother’s 2012 campaign, Scott Romney was one of the more visible family members.

Mitt Romney stands out as the only Republican senator to vote to convict Trump during the first impeachment trial in 2020, and he supported a similar stance in Trump’s second impeachment trial the following year.

Romney has been an outspoken critic of Trump, even penning a critical op-ed in 2019, where he vowed to address what he termed the president’s “destructive statements.”
