Trump moves from McDonald's to pursuing peace in the Middle East in his political return

A Year of Change for Trump: From McDonald’s to Peace Deal

It’s been quite a year for Donald Trump. Just a year ago, he was flipping burgers at McDonald’s. Now, he’s at the forefront of a significant peace initiative in the Middle East.

Mark Thiessen, a contributor, made this notable comparison during his segment on “America’s Newsroom” shortly after all 20 Israeli hostages were released from Hamas. He emphasized that this moment is one of the greatest political transformations in current history, and its effects are being felt globally.

Reflecting on a significant week for Trump, Thiessen pointed out that the former president has facilitated a remarkable peace agreement aimed at repatriating the hostages, even as challenges like a government shutdown persist. He referenced a quote from Ronald Reagan’s “A Time to Choose” speech, stating that the idea of peace often hinges on surrender. In contrast, he argued, what Trump is doing represents peace forged through victory.

This “comeback” refers to Trump’s visibility at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania during his campaign against then-Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. His recent diplomatic efforts come not long after a catastrophic attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Trump’s Upcoming Inspection of the Peace Agreement

Thiessen observed that a lot has transpired since the onset of conflict in the region. He detailed the significant events, such as the elimination of key figures within Hamas and Hezbollah, and the fall of Syria’s Assad. Additionally, he noted that Iran’s influence in the region is waning, with its military capabilities increasingly compromised.

He also compared Trump’s approach to that of President Joe Biden, suggesting that Biden’s attempts to restrict Israel’s military actions may have hindered progress. According to Thiessen, Trump energetically encouraged action against Hamas, which ultimately has led to a unique situation where peace is the result of decisive victory.

Trump’s engagement culminated in a peace summit in Egypt, where he officially signed the historical Gaza peace agreement.
