Four Arrested in Mississippi Mass Shooting

Four men have been arrested following a mass shooting that tragically resulted in six deaths and injured at least 20 others during a high school homecoming event in Mississippi, officials reported.

The suspects—Tevyon Powell, 29, William Bryant, 29, and Morgan Lattimore, 25—are facing charges of murder, while LaToya Powell, 44, is charged with attempted murder, according to the FBI’s Jackson field office.

The incident took place just after midnight on Saturday in Leland, a small city in Washington County, following a local high school’s homecoming football game. Investigators suspect the shooting stemmed from a personal clash, though the FBI has not yet confirmed a definitive motive.

Four of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, with disturbing signs of the violence—abandoned shoes and blood stains—found the next day. The deceased have been identified as Oleshama Johnson, 41, Calvin Plant, 19, Shelbiona Powell, 25, Kathryn Johnson, 18, Amos Brantley, 18, and Jaymichael Jones, 34 by local media.

On Sunday, the FBI released a “wanted” poster that depicted four unidentified individuals believed to be connected to the shooting. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves shared these images online, asserting that those accountable would face justice.

“This is not who we are as a community,” remarked Leland Mayor John Lee. “Our hearts break for these families.” Authorities, including the FBI and local law enforcement, continue to investigate and there may be further arrests.

In a related incident elsewhere in Mississippi, two individuals, including a pregnant woman, were found dead Friday evening on a high school campus in Heidelberg following the homecoming game there. An 18-year-old has since been arrested and charged with two counts of murder and unlawful firearm possession on school grounds.

Additionally, another shooting at Alcorn State University during a homecoming football game left three people shot and one dead. Police reported responding to shots fired near the university’s Industrial Technology Building, but as of Monday, no arrests have been made.
