Brewers’ Turan Faces Tough Loss Against Dodgers

Maybe Turan could’ve done more for the team.

In a tense moment during the ninth inning, Brewers second baseman Bryce Turan faced Dodgers closer Blake Treinen with two outs and the bases loaded. A sweeping pitch was thrown, dangerously close to his ankle and into his batter’s box.

To avoid injury, Turan nearly twisted his knee, narrowly escaping what could have been a game-changing hit.

On the next pitch, he swung at a fastball clocked at 99 mph but missed, sealing the game with a 2-1 loss for the Brewers and handing the Dodgers a 1-0 advantage in the NL Championship Series.

After the game, Turan reflected on the missed opportunity, suggesting that the team needed to step up better. “It’s the worst. It is what it is,” he remarked. “It’s instinct to get out of the way. There’s nothing I can do about it now. I was focused on the sinker he was throwing, but then he threw a four-seam and it got away from me.”

Earlier in the game, Treinen replaced Aki Sasaki, who, despite strong performance, couldn’t secure the final outs after Blake Snell’s impressive eight-inning one-hitter. Treinen then walked William Contreras, loading the bases, before striking out Turan.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy offered support for Turan, acknowledging the difficulty of the moment. “When a ball comes at you, especially a breaking ball, it’s natural to react,” Murphy said. “I think Turan will learn from this, but these situations are tough. Even if he tries, it’s a reflex that’s hard to control.”

Looking ahead, the Brewers are set to have Freddy Peralta on the mound against Yoshinobu Yamamoto for Game 2 on Tuesday night.
