Emotional Reunion for Hostages Freed by Hamas

This week has brought some relief for many in Israel, particularly families celebrating the return of hostages freed by Hamas following a swift peace agreement.

Take Rishay Ravi-Milan, for instance. We first connected with her during a rally in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square last month. Her husband, Omri Milan, 48, was captured from their kibbutz home by Hamas fighters. Rishay’s message to us in September was heartfelt; she simply said, “I’m praying for Omri’s life, and for everyone else’s life too. We’re praying for all Israelis, really.”

On Monday, her prayers were answered. An amateur video captured her joy as she watched Omri being transferred to an Israel Defense Forces helicopter. He looked good, and their joyful reunion, both wearing matching T-shirts, was a sight to behold. She mentioned how her six-month-old has even started saying the Hebrew word for “daddy.” It’s those little moments that matter, right?

Then there’s Liron Berman, who we also met at last month’s rally. He’s the older brother of twin brothers Ziv and Gari Burman, both 28. Liron exuded confidence that they would make it through.

“They will survive,” he assured us, and when we pressed him about his certainty, he simply reiterated, “I’m confident.”

Against all odds, the brothers were separated during their abduction but were finally reunited after their release on Monday. Their embrace was warm, and both seemed to have retained their distinct personalities—Ziv, the charming one, and Gari, always seeking the thrill of life.

They took a helicopter ride to greet their families, proudly sporting T-shirts of their favorite football teams along the way.

Meanwhile, the ceasefire and hostage agreement was notably pushed through by President Donald Trump and his team. Another individual we spoke with in September, Keith Siegel, felt vindicated by these developments.

Having spent 484 days as a hostage himself, he passionately advocated for the remaining captives. “Because of President Trump, I’m here today. I’m alive and I’m free,” he shared. “I urge President Trump to keep up his efforts.” It appears the president did just that.

However, this week likely marks just the start of the journey ahead. While some of the dead hostages’ remains have been returned, the Gaza Strip continues to be a perilous area, and many aspects of the peace plan remain unresolved.

Still, for now, there’s a sense of relief for many. Perhaps it’s the beginning of a moment to breathe and relax, since peace, at least in this moment, feels good.
