Trump Honors Charlie Kirk on His 32nd Birthday
In Washington, President Trump paid homage to Charlie Kirk with a celebration in the Rose Garden, marking what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. Kirk’s widow, Erica, shared that she might consider running for president in the future.
The 79-year-old president referred to the late conservative activist as a “martyr,” someone who deserves significant recognition in history. “Charlie Kirk was a martyr for truth and freedom,” he stated, drawing parallels between Kirk and historical figures who have risked everything for their beliefs.
Trump expressed his belief that Kirk, who was tragically killed in Washington, is “looking down on us right now.” He highlighted the rise of far-left extremists, attributing their violent actions to a failure of their ideas to resonate with the public.
“They have a satanic ideology, and they know it’s failing,” he remarked, suggesting that this understanding leads to their aggression.
Tyler Robinson, aged 22, has been charged with Kirk’s murder, which occurred during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University following a disagreement over political views.
Trump declared that he had “hurried back” from the Middle East to be part of the ceremony. “I was going to call Erica and ask if we could reschedule for Friday,” he said, recalling how he eventually decided against making that call, motivated by the significance of Kirk’s birthday.
Reflecting on Kirk’s youthful spirit, Trump mentioned meeting him when he was about 22. “I thought he seemed older than that. He was special,” Trump noted, emphasizing that, despite his short life, Kirk had made an indelible impact.
Trump also used the occasion to criticize Jay Jones, Virginia’s Democratic attorney general nominee, for his controversial remarks about violence against Republicans. “We saw him bragging about wishing harm on Virginia Republicans,” Trump pointed out, condemning such sentiments, especially in light of Kirk’s assassination.
Erica Kirk, addressing the attendees, reminisced about Charlie’s fondness for low-key birthday celebrations, sharing her struggles in finding the perfect gift for him. “It was often difficult because he wasn’t materialistic,” she admitted, but added, “Mr. President, I think you gave him the best birthday present ever.”
She even conveyed a birthday message from their young daughter and speculated that, had Charlie not been killed, he likely would have pursued a presidential run, driven by a desire to serve his country rather than personal ambition.
