Concerns Arise Over Tom Brady’s Appearance in Raiders’ Coaching Box

During Week 2’s Monday Night Football matchup against the Chargers, the Raiders expressed their displeasure when ESPN showcased Tom Brady in the coach’s box, as revealed by Joe Buck.

Brady’s presence sparked concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest since he’s not just a minority owner of the Raiders but also the main figure in Fox’s NFL coverage. Right from the broadcast on September 15, it became a talking point.

While Buck previously downplayed worries surrounding Brady’s role in production meetings, he did share on “The Pivot” podcast that Brady’s visible presence in the Raiders’ coaching box felt a bit too exposed. “It was a visual. Yeah, it was a visual,” Buck commented.

Brady’s involvement seemed to create some tension. He reportedly wasn’t pleased that his presence became a subject of discussion, yet there he was, in the booth with a headset on. Buck reflected, “We’re all at least smart enough to know there are cameras everywhere. They will find you.” Eventually, the commotion died down, as it often does in the news cycle.

The following day, the NFL issued a statement to clarify that Brady was in the booth as a limited partner. “All personnel sitting in the booth must adhere to a policy that restricts the use of electronic devices, aside from league-issued equipment,” the NFL stated.

In a previous season, Brady first stepped into the broadcast booth. At that time, the NFL restricted him from being involved with practices and facilities leading up to games he was set to commentate. These regulations have since been relaxed, enabling him to join virtual production meetings.

Buck dismissed the notion that Brady’s participation provided any insider information regarding team operations. “I don’t know what he’s going to get out of the production meeting that will help him as a Raiders executive,” Buck noted. “If some owners don’t like it, I think that’s their prerogative.”
