The U.S. Capitol Police are looking into an incident reported by Rep. Dave Taylor (R-Ohio), who found a swastika displayed in his Washington, D.C., office. An image acquired shows an American flag altered with a swastika along with a pocket constitution and a parliamentary calendar near a staff member’s desk.
In a statement made on Wednesday, Taylor condemned the symbol, emphasizing that such imagery is unacceptable. He mentioned, “I am aware of images that appear to depict vile and highly inappropriate symbols in the vicinity of employees in my office. The content of that image does not reflect the values and standards of this office, my staff, or myself.” His remarks reflect a strong disapproval of the vandalism, which he addressed in serious terms.
Upon discovering the vandalism, Taylor requested a comprehensive investigation from the Capitol Police, which is currently ongoing. His office stated that they wouldn’t provide any further comments until the investigation concludes.
Rep. Taylor serves Ohio’s 2nd District and is involved in various committees, including the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Agriculture Committee. He is a family man, a husband, and a father of three, also co-chairing the bipartisan Congressional Rural Broadband Caucus. Meanwhile, inquiries directed at the U.S. Capitol Police for more information were met with automatic replies due to the federal government shutdown.
