Jennifer Lopez Reflects on Her Divorce as a Positive Experience

Jennifer Lopez has shared insights into her recent divorce, calling it the “best thing” for her personal growth.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show,” the 56-year-old actress and singer elaborated on her 2024 separation from Ben Affleck and the lessons she took away from it.

“The last time I got divorced, it was the best thing that happened to me,” she remarked. “That really set me on a journey. I had a religious coach, a therapist, a couples therapist, a personal therapist—essentially, I had all the support I could get. I thought, ‘If this is going to be the end for me, I need to figure things out.’

The “Hustlers” star has been married four times, including high-profile unions with Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 and with Affleck from 2022 to 2024.

When Stern asked if she had ever truly felt loved, Lopez responded with a “no,” but she emphasized that she understands what it means to love someone. She speculated that part of her struggle might be “because I don’t love myself.”

“What I’ve learned is not that I can’t love, but that they are often not capable. They gave me everything they could—rings, houses, marriages. Everything. But…” she reflected.

After navigating through her divorce, Lopez expressed a newfound self-awareness, saying she can now reflect on her life with greater confidence.

“Thinking about my parents, my past, how I learned to love, how I often felt ignored—it’s all part of what goes through my mind as I understand who I am now,” she noted. “And I’m really grateful for that understanding. I feel comfortable being myself, embracing both my good qualities and complex aspects.”

Previously, she described her split from Affleck as “the best thing that ever happened to me.” She mentioned that the experience helped her grow and become more self-aware.

“I’m a different person now than I was last year,” she reflected. “I realized that joy comes from being alive, appreciating the present moment, and learning from all that life offers.”

Lopez concluded that once you grasp these life lessons, things feel lighter, allowing you to truly soar. When asked if she feels like she’s flying now, she stated, “Yes,” but added, “I still want to fly higher.”

The two recently reunited at the premiere of “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” a project Affleck produced that stars Lopez. They were seen together on the red carpet, with Affleck affectionately posing with his arm around her waist.
