Trump Plans Meeting with Putin in Hungary

President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary in the coming weeks. This meeting will follow his discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Washington, D.C., on Friday.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump mentioned a meeting of senior advisors for the nation. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to lead this meeting next week, although the location is still unspecified.

Trump emphasized the importance of the meeting with Putin, stating, “Hungary needs to see whether it is possible to end this ‘disgraceful’ war between Russia and Ukraine.” He expressed optimism, saying he thinks they made progress during a recent phone conversation with Zelenskiy, where various issues, including the upcoming meeting with Putin, were discussed.

During a lengthy conversation with Trump, he and Putin discussed U.S.-Russian trade but did not mention the supply of sophisticated weapons to Ukraine, such as Tomahawk missiles. This is a significant concern for Zelenskiy, who is working hard to secure advanced weaponry that could change the dynamics of the conflict.

Zelenskiy’s priority is obtaining Tomahawk missiles, which are capable of striking deep into Russian territory and could significantly impact Russia’s military resources, including its oil industry, which finances much of its military operations.

The announcement of the Trump-Putin meeting came shortly after a wave of Russian missile and drone attacks targeted Ukrainian cities. Zelenskiy reported that over 300 drones and 37 missiles were launched, hitting not only frontline areas but also the city of Vinnytsia in central Ukraine.

Zelenskiy commented on the situation, stating, “Rescue operations are being carried out in various places. Emergency services are working.” He highlighted that Russia has been using tactics targeting first responders and energy workers, exacerbating the crisis.

As the conflict continues, Zelenskiy plans to meet with Trump and defense officials to find ways to increase pressure on Putin, aiming to curb his aggressive actions in Ukraine.

While Trump has yet to confirm whether Tomahawk missiles will be supplied to Ukraine, he has expressed growing frustration at Putin’s unyielding actions despite diplomatic efforts. Discussions of increasing U.S. defense support, including Patriot missiles, are also on the agenda for the upcoming talks with Zelenskiy.
