Ocasio-Cortez Criticized for Comments on Republican Strategy

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York faced significant backlash after a discussion with Bernie Sanders during a CNN town hall on Wednesday. She suggested that the Republican Party could effectively draw in young men by promoting a particular mindset.

Ocasio-Cortez stated, “They can radicalize, target and exploit young boys, especially young boys, away from healthy masculinity and toward a precarious masculinity that requires domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker-skinned, or of a different gender.” This remark drew considerable criticism online.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama), who has a long history in football coaching, responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s comments when prompted by Fox News Digital. He highlighted the values he instilled in his players, particularly the notion that the U.S. provides limitless opportunity to anyone who puts in hard work, regardless of their background.

“Unfortunately, the woke Democratic Party has spent the last 20 years telling young men that just because they are men, they are ‘racist,’ ‘sexist,’ and ‘toxic,’” Tuberville remarked. He added that the Democrats also attempted to hinder men from employment based on skin color and during the Me Too movement.

According to Tuberville, this messaging could explain why over half of young people voted for Trump in 2024. He warned that if Democrats continue labeling men negatively, they could face lasting electoral defeats.

Tuberville, recognized as a key figure in his coaching career, mentored several successful players, including Jason Campbell and Ronnie Brown.

A recent report highlighted that the Democratic Party is confronting trust issues within its ranks. A study from Decision Desk Headquarters indicated that there’s been an observable increase in support for Republicans among Gen Z, particularly among young men. The percentage of young white men identified as Democrats has dropped significantly, from approximately 49% to 29%.

Additionally, a Fox News analysis noted that about 55% of men voted for Trump in the 2024 elections, with 53% of men aged 18-44 also supporting him. Among male voters under 30, more than half preferred Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Associated Press reported that Trump’s approval rating has surged among young black and Latino male voters, climbing roughly 20% compared to 2020 figures.

In a related initiative, The New York Times disclosed that the Democratic Party is investing $20 million into research aimed at better understanding how to engage “American men,” recognizing their struggle in recent electoral contexts. The project, titled “American Men: A Strategic Plan,” is focused on discovering language and content strategies to effectively reach this group.
