House Speaker Comments on Upcoming Protests
In a recent press conference, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) discussed an upcoming event he referred to as a “Hate America Rally” planned for the weekend, which is tied to what he described as No Kings protests occurring nationwide.
Johnson indicated that attendees could expect to encounter “Marxists, socialists, Antifa supporters, anarchists, and those aligned with the far-left Democratic Party.” He suggested that these groups consistently host rallies aimed at critiquing America.
“America Hate rallies seem to be a recurring theme for all these groups,” he stated. “Just listen to their own words. A lot of them express a disdain for living in this country. They oppose capitalism and our free enterprise system; they reject the principles that define the nation we work hard for and strive to protect.”
He further characterized these groups as being against “individual freedom and government limitations.” Johnson elaborated on their opposition to the “rule of law,” stating they often challenge legal frameworks, and they seem to resist the notion of “peace through force.” According to him, they consistently fight against principles that promote human flourishing, like fiscal responsibility and human dignity.
“Their voting patterns reflect this time and again,” he noted. “You’ll hear them rallying for Democrats, showing their discontent with President Donald Trump to the point where they overlook celebrating America’s achievements under the current administration.” Despite this, he reaffirmed that Americans still have the right to express their views under the First Amendment.
“I am a strong advocate for free speech. My early career involved defending that right in court before it came to Congress. People have the right to protest, and the Republican Party stands for maximizing freedom. Our Founding Fathers believed every American is granted certain inalienable rights, like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Johnson argued that the protests were essentially opposing freedom, rather than upholding it.
He suggested that some of his Democratic colleagues were focused on creating a spectacle through their actions during the ongoing government shutdown, which he believes is being used to stage a grander event for the protest.
Johnson claimed that the motives behind the prolonged shutdown are becoming clearer. He referenced materials circulating from the organizing group of the event that seemed to support the current strategy of keeping the government closed, including promotional talking points.
Additionally, he reminded listeners that since Republicans assumed leadership, Americans have found more freedom to express their opinions, contrasting it with what he called the cancel culture burgeoning during the Biden administration.
“The fact that the Republican Party has facilitated an environment where sharing opinions is possible is the first major irony of the so-called America Hate rally,” he concluded.
