MONTREAL — Rangers Focus on Scoring in Practice
The Rangers wrapped up a brief practice session on Friday that emphasized scoring techniques and shooting drills.
Having scored just once in their last three games, the team engaged in some lighthearted activities, including 2-on-1 rushes and shootouts during the practice. They also incorporated a knockout game into their session, where players had to protect their puck while trying to knock others out of play using their sticks.
When asked about maintaining a fun atmosphere, coach Mike Sullivan acknowledged this approach, highlighting the focus on scoring during practice. “That was part of what we aimed for today,” he mentioned after the session at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard, Quebec. “Every practice is meant to give our players chances to score and shoot. I think the team’s spirit is good where it needs to be. We have a lot of character among the players. When they leave the ice, they seem to understand the direction we’re headed, and I believe they’re pleased with what we’re building as a team.”
Sullivan also reflected on the team’s record, stating, “I think we could be doing better, and we’ve talked about that recently. But it’s early in the season; we just need to keep developing our game together.”
The Rangers skated in the same lines as Thursday’s game in Toronto but switched up their defense. Notably, defenseman Carson Soucy remained in a red non-contact jersey as he recovers from an upper-body injury. Meanwhile, Scott Morrow is still with the Rangers as an extra defenseman.
On another note, Will Borgen did maintenance during practice but is expected to be ready for Saturday’s game against the Canadiens, despite not participating on the ice.
Additionally, Connor McKee was assigned to Hartford as the Wolf Pack prepared for their home opener against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
