Knicks complete preseason without using their full starting lineup.

Knicks Practice and Roster Decisions

The Knicks’ final practice resembled their previous exhibition game, which isn’t exactly what fans were hoping to see.

Three key starters—Mitchell Robinson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby—are currently unavailable, along with Josh Hart.

This means the team will head into the regular season without any preseason games featuring their full lineup.

Coach Mike Brown mentioned that Robinson is being rested, while Towns (quadriceps), Anunoby (ankle), and Hart (back) are all listed as day-to-day with minor injuries.

“We’re just exercising caution with Mitch, managing his load and the others,” Brown remarked.

It’s obviously not great to start the season with multiple players dealing with injuries, especially given the transition to a new coach and system.

“Everyone wants to be together, especially since this is our first time,” Brown said, underlining the importance of teamwork. “Sure, it’s not ideal, but we still need to get wins. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Opening night isn’t the pinnacle. We always hope things click early, but our guys are putting in the effort and adapting quickly. Honestly, they are further ahead than I expected.”

The Knicks need to reduce their roster to 14 players by Saturday at 5 p.m., necessitating six cuts. The final spot is likely to be filled by either Landry Shamet or Garrison Matthews.

“Opportunities are always available for players,” Brown noted. “We’re in constant discussion with team president Leon Rose and his staff. Our feelings can change, just like anyone else’s. But for now, we’ll take our time before finalizing any decisions.”
