Pro-life organization experiences increase in young supporters following Charlie Kirk's assassination

Presidential Medal of Freedom Awarded to Charlie Kirk

Recently, President Donald Trump presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Charlie Kirk, the late founder and CEO of Turning Point USA. This ceremony came shortly after Kirk was tragically killed. Known for his strong conservative and pro-life beliefs, Kirk had a significant impact on a new generation of activists.

Sean Carney, the president of 40 Days for Life, expressed his admiration for Trump, calling him “the most pro-life president ever.” He shared with Fox News Digital that pro-life supporters appreciated the honor given to Kirk.

“It was wonderful to see him recognize Charlie,” Carney remarked. “Kirk stood for freedom. Free speech is essential for the pro-life movement. It’s central to the ethos of 40 Days for Life and important in pro-life discussions. Charlie was someone who dedicated his life, and for all pro-life Americans, this was a remarkable tribute.”

Kirk was known for engaging debates around the globe, often facing challenging opposition. Carney noted that Kirk’s approachability and authentic personality appealed to young people and drew them into the pro-life movement.

“Charlie was open, honest, and willing to engage in conversation,” Carney noted, emphasizing that being relatable is crucial in pro-life endeavors.

“Many individuals are impacted by abortion, and while some advocate strongly for reproductive rights, you can’t approach them with anger. You have to be approachable and rational. You shouldn’t be hesitant to express your beliefs, like Charlie wasn’t,” he added.

Increased Interest in 40 Days for Life After Kirk’s Death

Carney highlighted that interest in 40 Days for Life has surged following Kirk’s death, particularly among young activists.

“His unfortunate assassination came just two weeks before we kicked off our largest 40 Days for Life campaign globally,” Carney explained. “Over 700 cities participated, and we saw a remarkable 36% uptick in involvement. Many young attendees were familiar with Charlie and were motivated to join, even bringing their parents to pray during the wake.”

Empowerment in the Wake of Tragedy

Carney recalled a young woman who, even before Kirk’s death, expressed fear about engaging in pro-life work. Surprisingly, despite the traumatic circumstances, she felt empowered and compelled to advocate for her beliefs.

“I expected fear to be the overwhelming response, but that wasn’t the case,” Carney shared. “It truly inspired her to confront her long-standing anxieties.”

He also mentioned a chapter president from TPUSA whose mother advised against her joining TPUSA or 40 Days for Life. The young woman reportedly told her mother that, instead of shying away from conflict, Charlie would have wanted her to stand up and fight.

Kirk’s Legacy of Courage

When asked what Kirk would convey to current pro-life activists if he were alive today, Carney suggested it would be to persevere. He shared that newcomers inspired by Kirk often feel he would encourage them to speak out rather than retreat in fear.

“Our culture presents many challenges, and we can’t let that intimidate us. We need to speak openly and with kindness. That’s how we truly make a difference and honor Charlie’s memory,” Carney concluded.
