Vice President Vance Commemorates Marine Corps Anniversary

On Saturday, Vice President J.D. Vance celebrated the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California. He emphasized the Corps’ readiness to fight and win, addressing a crowd that included Marines and sailors.

The event featured an impressive amphibious assault demonstration at Red Beach, inspiring speeches from military leaders and cabinet members. Notably, Vance is the first Marine to serve as vice president, which he proudly pointed out during his speech.

As helicopters flew overhead and amphibious vehicles charged through the waves, the ceremony kicked off dramatically. Vance’s wife, Usha, stood by, while family members watched the spectacle with awe.

This year’s commemoration not only celebrated the Corps’ history but also marked a significant milestone since the Continental Congress authorized the formation of the Marines back in 1775.

Military Leaders Speak to the Crowd

Marine Corps Commandant General Eric Smith addressed the audience, describing the demonstration as a representation of freedom. He referred to the Marines as America’s “911” and underscored the importance of being prepared for future challenges. His message was clear: “The next fight is coming… Marines are ready. Ready to fight. Ready to win.”

In his speech, General Smith highlighted that a Marine’s character, reliability, and determination outweigh advanced technology or equipment during pivotal moments. He concluded by expressing gratitude to their families for their sacrifices.

Vance’s Enthusiastic Speech

Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth followed with an impassioned address, reflecting on the Marines’ strengths. “Your strength is in your unity of purpose,” he declared, emphasizing that, while diverse, the Corps operates under a common mission.

When Vice President Vance took the stage, the crowd erupted in cheers. “God bless you, Marines,” he exclaimed, reminiscing about his own service. He shared his pride in being the first Vice President who is also a Marine, making connections between past sacrifices and the present gathering.

Vance honored fallen heroes and mentioned notable figures like Marine Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, along with those who participated in historic battles. His speech was filled with reflections on pride and unity.

A Blend of Humor and Resolve

In a blend of solemnity and humor, Vance related a humorous experience involving a gunnery sergeant who helped him navigate a credit union. This anecdote drew laughter and showcased the camaraderie found within the Corps.

Vance also struck a chord on current political issues, vowing to protect the salaries of enlisted Marines amidst ongoing government disputes. “Political battles should not impact soldiers and their families,” he asserted.

In his closing remarks, Vance reminded everyone of the long history of the Marine Corps, linking it back to its founding in 1775. He honored the legacy of those who fought bravely and encouraged the Marines to continue their mission with spirit.

The ceremony, closed with a powerful cheer from the crowd, celebrated sacrifice, grit, and unity among the Marines, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.

The Department of the Army, the Navy, and Vance’s office did not immediately respond to inquiries for further comments regarding the event.
