Lily Allen Discusses Her Serious Eating Challenges During Her Breakup with David Harbour

Lily Allen has opened up about her struggles with eating habits, particularly during her breakup with David Harbour, known for his role in Stranger Things.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, the 40-year-old singer reflected on the tough times that followed their split in February after four years together. She shared how she faced challenges with sleeping and eating, noting, “I’ve had real problems eating for the last few years. It’s become quite serious.”

Despite being sober for six years, Allen revealed that she came close to relapsing. “The sense of hopelessness was overwhelming,” she shared. “The last time I felt like this, turning to drugs and alcohol was my escape, so it was really hard to just sit with those feelings and not fall back into that.”

On her podcast, Miss Me?, which she co-hosts with her friend Mikita Oliver, Allen has discussed her mental health challenges before. In January, she confessed to struggling to engage with anything, saying, “I’m really… I’m not in a good place. I’ve been spiraling for a while now.”

She also recounted a panic attack that struck during a Christmas lunch, forcing her to leave early.

In a December 2024 episode, she mentioned that her eating disorder had been an issue for about three years, something she initially had not mentioned to her therapist. “I’ve been facing a tough time recently, and eating has been a big problem,” Allen explained. “It wasn’t something I prioritized talking about.”

Allen also discussed her 2023 ADHD diagnosis, which she believes may have played a role in her challenges related to the body and mind. “To me, the body and brain are completely separate,” she said. “A lot of people think they’re connected, but for me, they feel distinct. I often find myself lost in my thoughts and not paying much attention to my body.”

She elaborated, “I’m not eating, but I know I should be hungry. My body’s signals don’t quite reach my brain the way they should. It’s not that I’m avoiding food—it’s just not on my mind… My body’s lagging behind me.”

Allen met Harbour on the celebrity dating app Raya, and they married in Las Vegas in 2020. In February, they announced their separation, marking the end of their four-year marriage. She has two daughters, Marnie Rose, 12, and Ethel Mary, 13, from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper.
