FBI Takes Action After Hunting Platform Found Near Air Force One
On Monday, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that FBI Director Kash Patel instructed for “immediate action” following the discovery of a hunting platform close to Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport. This platform was reported visible prior to President Donald Trump’s return flight to Washington, D.C., after spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.
Bongino appeared on “Fox & Friends,” where he shared that the platform was uncovered during heightened security measures after a series of recent attempts on lives. Co-host Lawrence Jones raised concerns about the potential threat posed by the platform. Bongino responded, noting that given its prior usage or attempted usage, the Secret Service recognized the need for adjustments, which included expanding their security perimeter.
In the wake of past violent incidents, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was shot while at a public event, such vigilance is perhaps understandable. Trump himself survived a similar threat earlier this year during a campaign rally.
“I’ve got close ties with the local superintendent, and modifications were indeed made in light of the recent finding of this hunting platform,” Bongino added.
He indicated that the FBI’s involvement began once the stand was discovered, leading to its dismantlement and retrieval to an FBI lab for forensic analysis.
“It’s crucial for the public to understand the delineation of responsibilities. The Secret Service handles presidential security, not the FBI,” Bongino clarified. “However, if the Secret Service identifies something potentially dangerous, that’s where our memorandum of understanding kicks in for further investigation.”
Bongino also mentioned a conversation with Deputy Director of Secret Intelligence Matt Quinn, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Kash Patel was reportedly quick to respond, and Bongino was included in communications regarding the immediate actions taken to address the threat.
The discovery of threats during recent protests has also raised alarms, with some demonstrators openly expressing violent intentions against public figures.
