Louisiana Teen Hunter Discovered Dead In Deer Stand After Lightning Strike, According To Authorities

Tragic Lightning Strike Claims Life of Young Hunter in Louisiana

A 17-year-old hunter was found dead in a deer stand after being struck by lightning during the weekend in Louisiana, according to local authorities.

Emergency services were dispatched to the location in Bernice, near Robert Welch Road, following reports of injuries. Upon investigation, first responders located Colton Gage Honeycutt of Monroe in a wooded area.

Concerns from Honeycutt’s family grew when he didn’t return home after his hunting trip earlier that day, as noted by the sheriff’s office. It appears that he was struck by lightning amidst a thunderstorm that rolled through right before sunset on Saturday.

The Union Parish Medical Examiner’s Office declared Honeycutt deceased at the scene. This incident is still under investigation.

Unfortunately, this marks the 20th reported lightning fatality of the year, with this also being the fifth hunting-related case in the last couple of months. Even in autumn, it seems lightning remains a threat.

In related weather news, Tropical Invest 98L is being monitored in the eastern Caribbean, where the likelihood of cyclone formation is currently estimated at 80% over the coming week.

The storm has recorded sustained maximum surface winds of at least 59 miles per hour, posing a further weather risk for the region.
