IDF Confirms Transfer of Deceased Hostage
On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the bodies of deceased hostages were handed over from Hamas to Israel, facilitated by the Red Cross.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated in a statement that the transfer occurred from the Gaza Strip, with military rabbis set to receive the body during a formal ceremony. Hamas announced on Sunday that they had recovered the body, but if confirmed, the remains of the remaining 15 hostages would still be in Gaza. Israel stated that the bodies transferred last week were not those of the hostages.
According to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office, the Israeli Health Ministry’s National Forensic Center would need to identify the body before notifying family members.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office expressed sympathy for the families, stating, “All families of the deceased hostages have been updated on this matter. Our hearts are with them at this difficult time. Efforts to return the hostages continue and will not stop until the last one is back.”
The IDF added that Hamas must follow through on the agreement and take steps to return all remaining hostages. Notably, Hamas indicated last week that special equipment and more time were required to recover additional bodies.
Earlier on the same day, it was reported that Bipin Joshi, a Nepalese student who had been held hostage in Gaza, would be returned to his hometown, Bhimdattanagar.
These developments follow a recent week-long ceasefire that was reinstated after heightened clashes between Hamas and Israeli forces over the past weekend.
