NYC tenant disposed of lover's decomposing body in trash, but the foul smell couldn't be concealed: sources

A man from Brooklyn is facing allegations of disposing of his boyfriend’s decaying body in a trash can, an act that didn’t remain unnoticed for long due to the overwhelming stench, according to sources.

Christopher Moss, 38, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon on charges related to concealing a body. This followed reports of a foul smell permeating the hallway of an apartment building on East 21st Street in Flatbush, which led police to investigate a sixth-floor unit, as per law enforcement officials.

Authorities discovered the “heavily decomposed” remains of Moss’ boyfriend, 35-year-old Darrell Montgomery, crammed into garbage bags and left on the sidewalk.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, police initially suspected dismemberment and had to wait for the coroner to retrieve the body from the bags.

No immediate foul play was suspected, but Moss has been charged with attempting to dispose of a body and resisting arrest, officials reported.

Sources indicated that police pursued Moss based on a tip-off and confronted him while he was walking along Nostrand Avenue and Beverly Road. During the arrest attempt, he allegedly headbutted one officer and grabbed for another’s weapon.

Consequently, Moss is facing additional charges that include assaulting a police officer, attempted robbery, possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and obstructing public administration.

Meanwhile, a lingering foul odor remained in the victim’s building, leaving residents puzzled about the events that transpired.

Sayuri Abundis, 23, a supermarket employee residing on the fifth floor, noted that Moss had been acting oddly for the previous two weeks.

“I could hear him repeatedly saying, ‘Where are you? Please open the door!’,” she recalled. “They were always together, but for the last couple of weeks, it was just him. I remember him calling Darrell to let him in, and they were clearly arguing.”

“They had frequent arguments. I remember yelling at him, ‘Wait until I get up there!'” Abundis added, observing how Moss was often alone and seemingly talking to himself.

Neighbor Carl Smith, 62, mentioned having seen the couple since they moved in two years prior. “Before the body was discovered, Moss was often mumbling to himself as he walked around,” he remarked.

“He just kept pacing back and forth, muttering, even when he went to the store. It’s perplexing. We used to see them together all the time, but lately, it’s just him wandering around,” Smith said.

The coroner’s office is set to provide a formal determination regarding Montgomery’s cause of death.

Moss was scheduled to appear in court later that night.
