Traffic Cameras Issues Ticket to “Knight Rider” Car KITT

In a bizarre twist, New York City traffic cameras recently issued a speeding ticket to the iconic “Knight Rider” car, KITT, even though it has been on display at a car museum in Illinois for several years.

The Volo Museum, located on the north side of Chicago, shared that it received a $50 ticket from the New York City Department of Treasury for a replica of the famous vehicle from the 1980s television series starring David Hasselhoff.

According to the museum, traffic cameras recorded a vehicle speeding through a Brooklyn school zone on Ocean Parkway at 1:02 PM on April 22, clocking the car at 36 mph in a 25 mph zone. However, the museum insists that the car—a black replica of a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am—has been immobile in its exhibit for years.

“Well, this is new…I received this in the mail today. This is 100% authentic,” the museum posted on Facebook on May 7th. They added that the ticket featured a novelty license plate alongside a California plate.

The post continued, “Their official system tied the novelty plate to the Volo Museum and we received a $50 bill!! You can’t make that up! Our KITT hasn’t been moved out of the museum in years! Does anyone have (David) Hasselhoff’s number? He owes us $50!!!”

Museum officials suspect that the city’s systems mistakenly associated the novelty “Knight” license plate with the museum’s display vehicle. It’s worth noting that the car on exhibit is not the actual one used in the original series, which aired from 1982 to 1986.

It’s a strange situation indeed. The company that produced the series stated that five original cars were eventually created.

Built in 1991, the museum’s version was designed using original plans by Mark Scricani, who intended to promote his business manufacturing KITT accessories for fans. The museum has also requested a hearing to contest the ticket, and a spokesperson from the New York City Treasury Department mentioned they are currently investigating the issue.
