Joe Biden finishes radiation therapy for severe prostate cancer

Former President Joe Biden Completes Radiation Treatment

On Monday, former President Joe Biden wrapped up a week of radiation therapy for stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

The 82-year-old marked this significant moment by participating in a bell-ringing ceremony, a typical ritual signaling the end of treatment, at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia.

“Ring the bell!” his daughter, Ashley Biden, shared in an Instagram post. She included a video showing her father ringing the silver bell while the hospital staff celebrated with him.

Ashley expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you to the amazing doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine. Thank you very much.”

Biden’s press secretary confirmed this news, noting that the former president has undergone multiple weeks of radiation therapy. His office first announced the treatment on October 11.

It’s uncertain if Biden, who will turn 83 next month, will need further treatments or procedures following his cancer diagnosis.

Biden was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones back in May. Doctors rated the severity of his condition, giving it a Gleason score of 9 out of 10, though they noted it is hormone-sensitive and treatable with medication and radiation.

As concerns about Biden’s health had increased during the latter part of his presidency, this recent diagnosis stirred more questions regarding any medical issues he might have faced while in office.

After announcing his radiation treatment, Biden made a public appearance on Saturday, seeming noticeably weaker. He attended evening Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, a Roman Catholic church he has frequented for many years.

“My father was so brave throughout his treatment,” Ashley captioned another post on Monday, which featured a photo of Joe with former First Lady Jill Biden and two of his grandchildren. “I’m grateful,” she added.
