Seahawks Triumph Over Texans in Monday Night Football
The Seattle Seahawks secured a decisive victory against the Houston Texans in Monday Night Football, winning 27-19. This game improved Seattle’s record to 5-2 for the season, while the Texans, returning from their bye week, fell to 2-4.
Sam Darnold and the Seahawks had an explosive start, scoring two touchdowns within the first quarter. Zach Charbonnet and Jackson Smith-Njiba both contributed significantly to the scoring, showcasing their skills early in the game.
On the contrary, CJ Stroud and the Texans struggled to find their footing. Their initial four drives ended in punts, lacking any rhythm. Yet, they managed to put together two field goals, closing the gap to 14-6 as the second quarter wound down, leaving both teams within a score of each other at halftime.
In an unexpected turn during the second half, disaster struck for the Seahawks when Darnold was strip-sacked by Will Anderson Jr. in the end zone, leading to a touchdown for the Texans. Though they missed the two-point conversion, the score tightened to 17-12, giving Houston a glimmer of hope.
However, Seattle responded confidently, with Darnold leading the team to a field goal shortly after. Stroud, attempting to keep pace, turned the ball over on downs which opened the door for Darnold to connect with Smith-Njiba, setting up Charbonnet for another touchdown. Suddenly, it was 27-12, and the game began slipping out of reach for the Texans.
The Texans’ defense fought valiantly, with Derek Stingley Jr. intercepting Darnold at one point. Nevertheless, even finding themselves on Seattle’s 3-yard line didn’t translate to points as the Seahawks defense held strong. Eventually, Stroud did find a way into the end zone, connecting with Woody Marks to pull the score to 27-19. But time was not on Houston’s side, and the game concluded with Seattle on top.
Looking at individual performances, Smith-Njiba had a standout game with eight receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown. Charbonnet also made his mark by scoring twice, while Kenneth Walker III added some valuable yards on his birthday, running for 66 yards on 17 carries.
Meanwhile, after Nico Collins left the game early due to a head injury, the Texans managed only four catches for 27 yards from ten targets. Dalton Schultz stepped up to fill the void, catching nine passes for 98 yards.
