Tough Night for the Detroit Lions
Things took a sad turn for the Detroit Lions on Monday night as Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a broken collarbone, which could potentially end his season.
Evans had just returned from a three-game absence due to a hamstring issue but was sidelined again, this time with a concussion and a broken collarbone. He left the field in a cart midway through the second quarter.
The injury occurred when he was tackled while attempting to catch a pass downfield. Lions cornerback Rok Yasin was involved in the play. Evans remained on the field as medical personnel attended to him.
During his diving catch attempt, Evans landed on his right shoulder and his head seemed to hit the ground. After receiving assistance, he was carted off.
Head coach Todd Bowles shared with the media after the game, “He broke his collarbone and will be out for most of the year. Let’s see what happens.”
Bowles noted the disappointment that comes with losing a star player like Evans, especially after fans were eager to see him back on the field. He expressed that the team would need to focus on rebuilding going forward.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield echoed this sentiment, saying, “It’s obviously not good for the team, but it’s tough for him personally. Watching how he works every day, whether healthy or injured, it’s disappointing to see this happen.” He added that it’s hard not to feel for Evans, given how much effort he puts in.
Meanwhile, the Lions were able to stifle the Buccaneers’ offense, limiting them to just 12 carries for 41 yards. The Buccaneers struggled overall, turning the ball over on downs during their last three possessions and losing the game 24-9.
