Samantha Ponder expressed her disappointment over seeing her daughter “posted by boys” at a middle school basketball game.
The former ESPN “Sunday NFL Countdown” host, known for her strong opinions on transgender athletes, elaborated on her thoughts in a series of tweets. She mentioned her daughter’s team lost after competing against a player she described as “obviously a natural born boy.”
“Since moving to New York, this has occurred multiple times,” Ponder highlighted. “At one game, my daughter was guarding a boy during a girls tournament. Parents cheered while the boys’ physical advantage led to our girls losing.”
“We’ve always taught our kids to be kind and loving. The issue lies with the parents. No child is born in the wrong body. But honestly, it’s disheartening to see my daughter outmatched like this by a boy whose parents may have misled him,” she reflected.
Ponder added, “For anyone who says, ‘Just keep moving!’, I respect your opinion, but this is how I feel. New York, despite being America’s largest city, has lost its way. I want to advocate for truth and compassion. We shouldn’t give in to madness.”
Ponder lives with her husband, former Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, and their children—son Robinson True, 8, and daughters Beauden “Scout” St. Clair, 11, and Price, 7.
In response to a commenter questioning her views, she said, “I don’t need validation. My experiences speak for themselves. As a wise friend once remarked, ‘Tall people don’t feel the need to prove their height.’
Ponder rebutted a user who accused her of trying to profit from her beliefs.
“Living in New York, I’ve faced this issue countless times… There was a game today where my daughter was defending a boy clearly a natural in a girls’ tournament. Parents cheered as boys outmatched the girls, leading to a loss for the team,” she tweeted.

Ponder later shared her reflections, asking herself about her motivations and regrets. She mentioned candidly, “I can assure you that my honesty hasn’t been financially rewarding; it’s cost me millions.”
She and Robert Griffin III were both let go by ESPN last summer after the network altered its NFL coverage.
Ponder stirred discussion on social media last year regarding Imane Kerif, the female boxer who garnered controversy with her Olympic win.
Ponder expressed pride in those who speak out strongly on issues, referencing Italian athlete Angela Carini, who stepped back from a match against Kerif.
Ponder has also voiced support for President Trump following a rally incident in Pennsylvania last July.
Joining ESPN in 2011, Ponder mainly focused on college football and hosted “College GameDay” from 2012 to 2016, along with working as a sideline reporter in 2016.
She was elevated to host “Sunday NFL Countdown” in 2017, sharing the desk with analysts like Randy Moss and Rex Ryan, airing before NFL games on Sundays.
Following her departure, Mike Greenberg took over hosting duties for “Sunday NFL Countdown.”
