Bill Nye and Pete Buttigieg Join Abigail Spanberger for Rally
On Tuesday, Bill Nye, known as “The Science Guy,” alongside former USDOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg, will rally with Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic candidate for governor in Virginia. This event will take place in Charlottesville, a town significant for being the birthplace of President Thomas Jefferson. Meanwhile, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, John Reid, will head a public forum in a local university.
Spanberger’s rally is part of an effort to distance herself from the controversial candidacy of attorney general candidate Jay Jones.
Attendees can expect a strong Democratic presence amid the typically red landscape of Charlottesville and the surrounding Shenandoah Valley.
Governor Youngkin Critiques Spanberger’s Centrism
The Trump’s family properties, including Trump Winery and Albemarle Estate, sit on either side of town. They are not far from Monticello, with a road adorned by American flags running between Jefferson’s estate and Trump’s locations.
As Spanberger tries to harness celebrity influence for momentum, Reid is working to connect with voters, claiming to narrow the gap with his Democratic opponent, Ghazala Hashmi.
While Spanberger has publicly denounced Jones’ statements, her campaign has shifted recently to criticizing her Republican opponent, Winsome Earl Sears, for her strong pro-life stance.
New Ad Highlights Abortion Debate
A recent advertisement from Spanberger emphasizes Earl Sears’ support for extensive abortion restrictions, positioning Spanberger as a defender of individual rights.
This week, Nye, a former engineer and now a prominent figure, returned to the spotlight after criticizing Donald Trump at a protest in Washington, D.C. He condemned Trump’s administration for suppressing dissent and undermining democratic processes.
Celebrity Voices in the Political Landscape
Nye’s recent comments included accusations that Trump aims to silence public figures. Interestingly, while the Republican Party usually attracts fewer celebrities, Trump has garnered notable support from some Hollywood figures over the years.
Scott Baio, for instance, has expressed his belief that the U.S. will embody “MAGA” principles come 2024. Jon Voight frequently shares critical videos about Trump’s opponents, noting that since Lincoln, no one has faced such significant challenges.
On the other hand, Mel Gibson has also shown his support for Trump, infamously remarking about Vice President Kamala Harris.
Upcoming Gubernatorial Elections Heat Up
The race for the governorship in 2025 is intensifying as both candidates ramp up their efforts, just weeks from election day.
Nearby, the site of Mr. Jones’ rally was previously represented by Todd Gilbert, a Republican who was recently implicated in scandalous text exchanges regarding Jones.
During the gubernatorial debate, Earl Sears made repeated calls for Spanberger to demand Jones’ resignation. Recently, Sen. Ted Cruz held a fundraiser with Earl Sears at a local real estate developer’s home.
As the campaign continues, a Spanberger representative confirmed that she plans to attend a rally with former President Barack Obama soon. Meanwhile, Fox News has reached out to the White House for comments regarding Nye’s statements about Trump and his supporters.
