Accusations Against Investor Howard Rubin
Several individuals have come forward to share disturbing allegations against investor Howard Rubin, highlighting the torment they reportedly endured at his hands, including a “trophy wall” of images in his sex den.
According to prosecutors, this billionaire enticed women, including a model from Playboy, to his luxurious Midtown penthouse, compensating them for professional photo shoots. However, he has since allegedly morphed into a “monster,” engaging in sadistic acts of brutality and rape within a specially designed torture chamber.
One accuser expressed, “He gets pleasure from pain, in every sense. It’s not just physical torture; he manipulates people using his wealth and influence to exercise control.” They wish for safety and accountability for those involved.
Rubin, whose net worth is in the tens of millions, along with his assistant Jennifer Powers, faces accusations of orchestrating a bondage and masochistic sex trafficking operation that spanned from 2009 to 2019. The indictment cites ten victims but federal prosecutor Tara McGrath mentioned at a recent arraignment that there are likely many more victims and accomplices still unaccounted for.
Having been jailed since September 26, Rubin has been denied bail twice. Some victims, who chose to remain unnamed, conveyed their ongoing fear of retaliation, describing him as an “evil mastermind” who may seek to ruin their lives even from behind bars.
Women primarily recruited through modeling sites or social media were invited for dinners with Rubin, followed by paid fetish photo shoots. They later recounted how Powers reassured them about Rubin’s character, describing him as a gentleman who “didn’t need sex.”
Once inside the penthouse, many women were struck by the numerous photographs of Playboy models, which Rubin claimed to have interacted with in his “dungeon.” One accuser reminisced about seeing photos of models she admired early in her career, adding, “It felt like he was showcasing trophies.” Upon arrival, they were often asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, threatened with hefty fines for discussing their experiences.
The narrative continues as the women detailed how Rubin’s demeanor changed significantly once they entered his $18,000-a-month penthouse. One accuser stated, “It felt like he relished in inflicting pain on women.” Federal allegations detail the gruesome acts he allegedly committed, including restraining women, electrocuting them, and abusing them after they lost consciousness in a space referred to as the “red room.”
The prosecutors also allege that Rubin and his associates communicated through text messages to orchestrate the suffering of their victims. A notable figure in the financial world, he served at prestigious firms before being arrested on charges linking him to sex trafficking.
Rubin’s estranged wife, Mary Henry, portrayed him as a “family man” in communication to the court, whereas many of his alleged victims have begun to speak out. One reflected, “The truth turned my world upside down.” Though Mary filed for divorce in 2021, she remains involved in their children’s lives and has asked for a substantial bail amount for him.
While seeking bail, Rubin was reportedly looking for harmful solutions to silence his accusers and was deemed a flight risk due to his wealth. Allegations against him first surfaced in 2017, when multiple women alleged violent sexual assaults occurring in New York. Despite prior legal setbacks, victims stress that the issue extends beyond one man, highlighting systemic failures that enable predators.
One victim expressed, “Since 2017, living under the shadow of someone who believed they were untouchable is exhausting. The system allowed him to continue.” Many revealed that their daily lives are overshadowed by anxiety and fear, with one stating, “I rarely leave my house anymore, and when I do, it’s like I’m always on edge.”
Rubin has entered a plea of not guilty, while Powers also faces charges and remains under bail restrictions. Attempts to receive comments from their representatives were unsuccessful.
For those affected, it appears that while justice may be on the horizon, the emotional toll of Rubin’s alleged actions is profound and far-reaching.
