WH criticizes TMZ’s 'Fake News' story about Trump possibly pardoning Diddy this week

The White House has rejected reports suggesting President Donald Trump might demote or issue a pardon for Sean “Diddy” Combs. They called the claims from TMZ “a complete fabrication” and accused entertainment news outlets of sharing “fake news.”

The issue began earlier this week when TMZ published a story citing a “senior White House official,” indicating Trump was considering a pardon for the controversial music figure sometime soon.

This news quickly spread across social media, stirring mixed reactions. Diddy’s supporters were excited, while critics and even some Trump backers expressed confusion or anger.

“The truth is zero,” stated the TMZ report. They added that the government could have clarified their stance had they been contacted prior, emphasizing that the president, not unnamed sources, makes the final decisions on pardons.

This exchange marks a significant public dispute between the Trump administration and TMZ, a prominent outlet known for its celebrity scoops. Despite the White House’s robust dismissal of the story, TMZ stood by its report.

Combs, 55, is currently serving a multi-year sentence due to a federal investigation that revealed charges related to sex trafficking, assault, and extortion. Once a major figure in hip-hop, his reputation took a hit from various lawsuits and a viral video.

Speculation about a potential pardon emerged after Trump referenced “excessive sentencing in celebrity cases” at a recent rally, which some interpreted as supportive of Diddy. However, the White House reiterated that these discussions were unfounded.

Notably, TMZ has experienced its share of inaccuracies in reporting. For instance, it mistakenly reported in 2008 that Miley Cyrus had died in an accident and misreported Jerry Lee Lewis’s death in 2022, only to correct itself later.

As tensions between the White House and media outlet persist, Diddy’s legal team has not publicly commented on the situation. For now, he remains incarcerated amid ongoing rumors.
