The 2025 NFL trade deadline is fast approaching.
For teams looking to sell, it’s an ideal moment to stock up on draft picks for the 2026 NFL Draft.
On the other hand, teams aiming for a playoff spot should evaluate potential players who could help them achieve that goal.
Here are nine players to keep an eye on as the 2025 NFL trade deadline approaches. Just a quick note: this list doesn’t include quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson. Why? Well, it seems no teams are openly looking for a quarterback right now. Some might think of the Minnesota Vikings, but that feels a bit premature.
That said, if injuries strike at the quarterback position, we could see Wilson and Cousins become prime trade candidates.
Trey Hendrickson, EDGE, Cincinnati Bengals
Trey Hendrickson has been mentioned in trade talks all summer, thanks to a disconnect between him and the Cincinnati Bengals. A deal to keep him in the team was made before the season, but trade chatter is getting louder again as the deadline nears.
There’s a reason the Bengals are holding on to Hendrickson. Even with Joe Burrow out, the Bengals still have a 3-4 record, recently winning against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It wouldn’t be very wise to trade away their top defensive player when they need strong support.
Still, teams like the San Francisco 49ers that might be desperate close to the deadline could reach out.
Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets
The New York Jets are currently 0-7, and owner Woody Johnson seems to be making drastic changes, even shuffling the starting quarterback.
This situation screams “sell,” but running back Breece Hall could be the player who garners real value in trades. He’s on track to exceed 1,000 rushing yards this season, making him an attractive asset for teams looking to bolster their backfield.
The New England Patriots might be a good fit, but it seems unlikely the Jets would trade him within the division. Other teams to watch could include the Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, and Chicago Bears.
Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints
Chris Olave has had his share of injury issues in his brief career, but he’s a versatile receiver who can fit well into various systems.
His trade could provide some financial relief for the New Orleans Saints, who are already over the salary cap by more than $18 million. Moving Olave frees up $15 million in cap space for next year and helps the team get back in a better financial position.
His ability to adapt makes Olave an intriguing trade candidate, especially for teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers.
Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was among the first to voice a desire for a trade, having indicated back in August that he wanted out if the Raiders couldn’t reach a new contract.
The veteran hasn’t wavered from that stance.
“Oh, for sure,” Meyers said when asked if he still wants to be traded. “But at the end of the day, I’m a professional. I’m just trying to play good football.”
Meyers excels as a target in short routes but also can stretch the field. He could complement Pittsburgh’s DK Metcalf well, or even make his way back to the Patriots, given Josh McDaniels’ presence there.
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins
As the Miami Dolphins’ season progresses, there are rumors that wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is not on the trading block.
That said, the team isn’t likely to ignore calls.
Waddle’s explosive speed makes him a desirable target, and teams needing wide receiver talent will surely inquire. The Pittsburgh Steelers seem interested, but also look for the New York Giants, especially after Malik Nabors’ injury, and the Buffalo Bills, who slipped from the top of the AFC East despite a strong start.
Rik Uhlen, CB, Seattle Seahawks
Rik Uhlen has emerged as a player to watch, not just because of his skills but due to how he fits within the system. Currently, he’s more effective as a man-coverage corner, yet the Seahawks are primarily using zone coverage this season.
One league executive mentioned that Seattle has been looking to trade him for some time, as he doesn’t mesh perfectly with their scheme.
Injuries to Devon Witherspoon might necessitate keeping Uhlen, but if a compelling offer comes through, the timing could be right for a trade. The Detroit Lions and New England Patriots could be among the teams interested.
Jaelan Phillips, EDGE, Miami Dolphins
While the Miami Dolphins seem hesitant to part with Jaylen Waddle, moving pass rusher Jaelan Phillips appears more likely.
With teams needing pass rush help, Phillips could be a sought-after asset, especially since the San Francisco 49ers are dealing with Nick Bosa’s injury. Other teams like the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and Jacksonville Jaguars are also in the mix.
Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore Ravens
It’s almost hard to imagine Mark Andrews in a different uniform.
Yet, that possibility isn’t off the table.
The Baltimore Ravens are aiming to climb the standings with Lamar Jackson back in action, but if they consider trading Andrews, it would make sense given his contract situation. The veteran tight end is in the last year of his deal, and with other pressing issues emerging, now might be the right moment to address this position.
Interestingly, the Denver Broncos could be a fitting destination for him since Evan Engram hasn’t quite delivered this season.
Logan Wilson, LB, Cincinnati Bengals
While trading Trey Hendrickson seems unlikely right now, linebacker Logan Wilson might attract interest, despite being a team captain. The Bengals are shifting toward younger options at linebacker, and Wilson has seen limited playing time recently.
Teams looking for a versatile linebacker might consider making a move. The Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, and Atlanta Falcons could all be in need of such talent.
