Sunny Hostin Indicates She Needed to Shield Her Son from Her Allegedly Racist White Neighbors

The View’s Sunny Hostin Discusses Concerns for Her Son’s Safety

On Wednesday, co-host Sunny Hostin of “The View” expressed her fears about her son’s safety, particularly regarding their allegedly racist white neighbors. The discussion was sparked by the tragic murder of Ajike “AJ” Owens, a Black mother who was shot by her white neighbor on June 2, 2023. Hostin highlighted that Black children are often perceived as threats in their own neighborhoods.

Hostin recalled a time when she took her son to the police station to prevent any potential harassment from neighbors. “As a mother of a Black child, I know that Black boys are not given prestige,” she said. She recounted a situation where she had to inform the police that her son was not a threat, emphasizing, “This is my son. Don’t harass him.”

Hostin remarked on the protective instincts of Black mothers, stating that they often face threats while simply doing their best to safeguard their children. Tragically, some end up being harmed, like Owens.

Hostin has been vocal about her views on racial issues, often linking the Republican Party with racism against Black and Hispanic individuals. She has previously mentioned that certain political dynamics reflect a broader racism problem, suggesting that South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott would struggle to gain support for the presidential nomination in 2024.

Additionally, Hostin faced criticism for her comments regarding the Trump administration’s treatment of undocumented immigrants and for her opinions on Vice President Kamala Harris’ electoral prospects related to her racial identity. She also learned about her ancestry, revealing connections to Spanish slave owners from Puerto Rico on PBS’s “Finding Your Roots.”
