Infamous child abuser Ian Watkins dies in prison; police gather suspects in apparent murder of the fallen Lostprophets vocalist

Ian Watkins Found Dead in Prison

Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, has reportedly been killed in prison, according to authorities. Watkins was serving a sentence for multiple child sex-related offenses, including the attempted rape of an infant.

British police disclosed that Watkins was murdered on the morning of October 11th at Her Majesty’s Prison in Wakefield, UK.

Watkins, aged 48, was declared dead at the facility, despite efforts to treat his wounds from what has been described as a “serious assault.”

Recently, British authorities arrested two men: Rashid Gueder, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43. Both are facing murder charges in connection to Watkins’ death. On Tuesday, two additional men, ages 23 and 39, were apprehended, also facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The identities of these new suspects have not been shared with the public.

A high-ranking source involved in the investigation noted that it is still ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle stated: “This arrest is part of a wide-ranging investigation into Ian Watkins’ murder.”

Entwistle also mentioned that more information regarding Watkins’ family is emerging as the investigation continues, but he cautioned that immediate developments are not expected.

A representative from Her Majesty’s Prison Service affirmed awareness of the incident but refrained from commenting further while the investigation is active. Requests for comment from West Yorkshire Police and HMP Wakefield have not yet been answered.

Background on Watkins

Watkins, well-known for his band Lostprophets, which was founded in 1997, faced numerous legal troubles prior to his death. A notable incident occurred in 2019, where he appeared in court after his cell phone was discovered within the prison. He remarked on being incarcerated among “murderers, mass murderers, rapists, pedophiles, serial killers — the worst of the worst.”

Previously, Watkins was stabbed in prison while serving his sentence. Reports in August revealed he had been held hostage for several hours and assaulted by three other prisoners at HMP Wakefield.

Watkins was arrested in December 2012 and charged with various offenses. His trial uncovered that a password for an encrypted file on his computer was shockingly alarming. In December 2013, he pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including conspiracy to commit child rape and possession of indecent images of children, among others. The judge described his crimes as exhibiting “new depths of depravity,” sentencing him to 29 years in prison.

The band Lostprophets disbanded in 2013 after Watkins’ sentencing, following a successful run that peaked with their third album “Liberation Transmission,” which hit the British charts in 2006.
