Broderick Jones and Aaron Rodgers’ Unusual Touchdown Celebration
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones stirred some tension with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers after an unusual touchdown celebration. In a surprising move, Jones tackled Rodgers to the ground following a touchdown. However, Jones clarified this week that despite the spectacle, there remains “no love lost” between them.
Jones commented on the situation during a press conference on Tuesday. He described it simply, saying, “It’s still a joke. Yeah, he was a little mad, but it’s okay. It’s football, it gets intense.” He reassured everyone that “there’s no love lost,” which kind of lightens the whole situation, doesn’t it?
Rather interestingly, Jones hinted that he might be open to more of these tackle celebrations in the future. “It’s just the energy that he brings and the energy that I bring. He told me, ‘Don’t lose your fire,’ and I said the same thing. We’ll see if he throws another touchdown on Sunday. I might tackle him again,” he mused.
Last week in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rodgers connected with tight end Pat Freiermuth for a 68-yard touchdown pass. Just as the excitement peaked, Jones, who weighs around 311 pounds, jumped in to celebrate by tackling Rodgers, knocking him to the ground in the process.
Despite the rather aggressive celebration, Rodgers, 41, seemed to emerge unscathed, although he appeared a bit frustrated after hitting the ground. Jones attempted to help him up, but Rodgers quickly brushed him off, possibly signaling that he wasn’t quite ready for that kind of celebration.
This incident came just two years after Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his debut season with the New York Jets. It’s been a wild ride for him since then, and this kind of playful moment certainly keeps things interesting.
As for the game, while the Steelers faced a loss against the Bengals, they are gearing up to face the Green Bay Packers this upcoming Sunday. This matchup is especially noteworthy since it marks Rodgers’ first encounter with his former team since his trade to the Jets back in 2023. It’ll be something to watch, that’s for sure!
