Charlie Sheen Reflects on Sobriety Journey

Charlie Sheen recently shared insights into the pivotal moment that spurred his journey to sobriety. The actor, once infamous for his substance abuse, has now maintained sobriety for almost eight years.

After battling addiction amidst significant turmoil, he realized that his lifestyle was negatively affecting not only his health but also the well-being of those around him. On the “Planet Tyrus” podcast, he expressed, “It was like being smart enough to start paying attention to my body.” He elaborated, noting that, “When the inside is literally trying to live on the outside, that’s a moment of adjustment.”

Sheen has been candid about his struggles with addiction, which contributed to various controversies throughout his career, including his departure from the popular series “Two and a Half Men” in 2011.

Back then, his role made him one of the highest-paid actors on television, yet his contract was abruptly ended following a third rehabilitation stint and public incidents involving substance abuse.

In the years since, he has spoken openly about the shame he felt during that period and how he has turned his life around since achieving sobriety in 2017. A key aspect of his recovery has been mending relationships with those he cares about. “I didn’t feel like I was available to the people who depended on me the most,” he said. “But then I had to make adjustments based on my choices.”

In a recent appearance on “Jesse Watters Prime Time,” Sheen revealed startling details about his drug use, mentioning that even the cartels supplying him had cut him off due to the extent of his addiction. He remarked that, given the amount consumed, they must have been selling rather than using those drugs.

Sheen publicly disclosed his HIV positive status in 2015, and after two years, he regained sobriety. He has since penned a memoir titled “The Book of Sheen” and was featured in a Netflix documentary series released in September.

Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged that the impact of his actions on others ultimately drove him to seek change. “I was just really tired of letting people down,” he admitted. “And in the end, you end up letting yourself down.”
