Jeff Daniels Performs on MSNBC
Actor Jeff Daniels showcased a song inspired by the “No Kings” protests during a live appearance on MSNBC’s “Deadline: The White House” on Tuesday.
Host Nicole Wallace recalled her podcast conversation with Joan Baez, discussing the unique sense of community and music that defined the movements of the 1960s. “One thing she noted was how we had each other, and we had music,” Wallace shared. Reflecting on the recent protests, which saw participation from 7 million Americans, she added, “And today, we have music thanks to Jeff Daniels.”
Daniels, known for his role in “Tron: Ares,” performed a self-penned song titled “Crazy World,” describing it as his way of coping with the chaotic nature of life.
While strumming his guitar, he sang poignant lyrics about observing the simple yet profound gestures of love and connection among people. “This crazy world has gone crazy. Who am I to judge? In a world full of hate, it’s refreshing to see love still thrive,” he expressed.
Prior to his performance, Daniels shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s reaction to the “No Kings” protests. He criticized Trump for what he perceived as a lack of “common sense,” particularly regarding an AI video that had circulated.
“Do we really need to treat people like that?” Daniels questioned, referencing an unflattering meme of Trump. Wallace responded by affirming the necessity of treating everyone with respect. Daniels then posed a thought-provoking question: “Would Lincoln have done that?”
Wallace pondered, “I don’t think Nixon would have done that,” to which Daniels added that leaders like Nixon, Reagan, and Bush understood the importance of civility, especially for those from the Midwest who value common sense.
In closing, Daniels suggested that he believes civility will become important again, particularly as citizens approach the midterm elections with a desire for change.
