Sports figure suggests theory about Cowboys' Dak Prescott during impressive season

Smith Offers Rare Praise for Jerry Jones

Stephen A. Smith, known for his critical stance towards the Dallas Cowboys, surprised many by praising the team’s owner and general manager, Jerry Jones. This comes after a significant trade move in late August.

In that trade, star pass rusher Micah Parsons was sent to the Green Bay Packers. This decision was particularly striking, given that it occurred just days before the anniversary of Jones extending quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract for four years.

While there was some criticism following Parsons’ exit, Smith defended Jones, arguing it was a strategic move, especially with the Cowboys performing well this season.

As Week 8 approaches, the Cowboys sit at a 3-3-1 record. Prescott has racked up 1,881 passing yards and thrown 16 touchdowns, ranking him second in the league.

Although they trail the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East, Smith still holds hope for Dallas’s playoff chances, particularly due to the organization’s investment in Prescott over Parsons.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith reflected, “I didn’t like how he managed Micah Parsons,” while noting that criticism of Jones needed to be balanced with recognition of his decisions, especially regarding Prescott.

“He put money on Dak Prescott. I mean, I did give him $60 million; I can let some things go,” Smith said, emphasizing the importance of having a strong offense. He also took a moment to commend running back Javonte Williams, who seems poised for a standout season.

Through six games, Parsons has recorded 16 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He’s also consistently achieved double-digit sacks during his tenure with the Cowboys.

Despite their playoff struggles in recent years – only four victories in the past 25 seasons and no NFC Championship Game appearances since their last Super Bowl win in 1995 – Smith remains optimistic about the Cowboys’ chances this January.

He stated, “If the Cowboys make the playoffs and win a game, we’ll have to reconsider our views on Jones. It’s tough, but we might have to admit he knows what he’s doing.”

This Sunday, the Cowboys are set to face the Denver Broncos.
