Donald Trump Jr. suggested that the Democrats have “lost the conspiracy” regarding his father’s controversial plan to tear down part of the White House for a new ballroom.
Critics, primarily Democrats, are accusing President Trump of damaging a historic element of the White House—the east wing, built during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency. However, the Trump administration asserts that this initiative aligns with efforts made by past presidents to enhance the estate.
On “Fox & Friends,” Trump Jr. expressed that the opposition lacks substance. He stated, “They have nothing more to talk about. They’ve lost the plot. They’ve stopped making any sense.”
The demolition activities concerning the East Tower have triggered significant backlash online, which prompted the White House to respond.
Trump Jr. defended the project, describing it as a “bold and necessary addition,” and characterized the left’s reaction as dramatic and unfounded. He emphasized that the initiative is privately funded, meaning it will not burden taxpayers.
He also pointed out that his father’s expertise in construction makes him uniquely qualified for such a project, asserting that it could improve the White House’s functionality for events.
Despite acknowledging the historical beauty of the White House, Trump Jr. mentioned that the Trump family sometimes feels the space is deficient for larger gatherings.
There have been rising concerns regarding the substantial private funding—over $200 million—used, as well as the potential influence of the contributors on Trump’s administration.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal questioned whether donors might gain undue leverage over the president due to their financial support for the renovations. Hillary Clinton added her voice to the criticism, arguing that the White House is a public property, not Trump’s personal space, and expressed dismay at what she described as its destruction.
In response, Trump Jr. condescended to Clinton’s comments, labeling them ironic. He recalled that the Clintons had to return items taken from the White House upon their departure, suggesting a level of hypocrisy in their criticisms.
Despite the discord surrounding the renovation, Trump Jr. remains optimistic about its long-term benefits for future presidencies and the legacy it aims to create.
“This is about enhancing the property,” he concluded. “It costs American taxpayers nothing; it’s aimed at bringing value, not just to my father’s presidency, but to every president after him.”
