Trump’s Remarks on Israel and Hamas Operations
In a recent interview, President Trump emphasized his influence over the actions Israel took against Hamas following the October 7, 2023, attacks. He stated, “All of those attacks were actually carried out in direct collaboration with me. You know, the Israelis are conducting the attacks, using pagers and things like that,” while discussing a significant Israeli operation that targeted Hezbollah in September 2024.
Trump noted, “Look, they were. Israel has had great respect for this country,” mentioning that he was kept informed about decisions made by Israel. He added that there were times when he disagreed, and Israel respected his stance.
A recent Hezbollah attack severely weakened the terror group, which, in turn, reduced the chances of Israel facing a dual front in its ongoing conflict with Hamas, although this occurred while Joe Biden was President.
Reflecting on former President Obama, Trump remarked, “President Obama treated Israel very badly,” and criticized the Iran nuclear deal as a “horrible deal.” He expressed surprise that Iran hadn’t developed a nuclear weapon during Biden’s term, saying he was confident they could have done so when he left office.
Trump elaborated about the Democratic Party, suggesting they contributed to Iran’s power by funding them. He warned that if they succeeded in their approach, it might lead to a nuclear-armed Iran.
Back in June, American airstrikes targeted three prominent Iranian nuclear facilities, which analysts believe could delay Iran’s weapons program significantly.
The former President remarked, “The more I think about it…the more I think about it and the defeat of Iran made it possible for us to accomplish that attack,” referring to the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He suggested that without the current geopolitical dynamics, achieving such an agreement would have been impossible.
He also expressed that if negotiations hadn’t progressed, any potential outcome would have been largely unhelpful due to the looming threat of nuclear weapons.
“I think they would have thought that and it would have meant very little,” he said, referring to the power dynamics in the region. He concluded that Iran had lost the control and respect it once held.
Following a ceasefire agreed on October 10, hostilities officially ended, and Hamas released the last 20 Israeli hostages. Despite sporadic clashes since then, the Trump administration aims to help both parties advance towards rebuilding efforts in Gaza and establishing a transitional government.
