Campaign insider criticizes her own candidate: ‘Darkest timeline’

Exclusive: An organizer for Abigail Spanberger’s gubernatorial campaign in Virginia shared some worries about her candidacy during a conversation with an undercover journalist last month, describing the race as being “in the darkest timeline.”

Fredrika-Mahm Ama Diegbe, who previously identified herself as the “Spanberger 2025 Campaign Organizer” on her now-deleted LinkedIn profile, expressed her disillusionment with the options available to voters. In the video, which was obtained by Fox News Digital, she highlighted concerns regarding Spanberger’s ties to law enforcement and her Republican opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earl Sears.

Diegbe reacted emphatically, saying, “CIA agent, literally, this is crazy. Yeah, vote for CIA agent, everyone, oh my god.” She continued, “We don’t know what happened. We’re in kind of the darkest timeline. Our only choice is between a black woman. Normally I agree, but now you think we should bring back slavery, Winsome! … But it’s like voting for a black woman who thinks slavery should be brought back, or voting for a white woman who was in the CIA.”

Despite these misgivings, a Democratic operative mentioned about the Spanberger campaign, “They’re paying really, really well.” Diegbe reflected on her experience, noting, “Working on the campaign made me realize that this is all a really big pyramid scheme,” adding further complexity, “We’re all actually working to improve not the individual, but what that person represents and what that representation looks like for the rest of the population.”

She mentioned a sense of disconnect: “When you focus too much on expression, you feel like you’re in The Wizard of Oz… everything is behind smoke and mirrors and curtains.” Diegbe felt that the disparity between who candidates are and the actual work being done left her feeling somewhat like a salesperson.

In a recent interview, Diegbe said of Spanberger, “I think she represents that idea. I know she represents the best idea that we can find right now.” Currently, Spanberger and Sears are neck-and-neck as the election draws closer, and this race is viewed as pivotal ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Polls suggest Spanberger has a slight edge over Sears, though Spanberger has faced sharp criticism lately for not distancing herself from fellow Democrat Jay Jones, who is vying for attorney general in Virginia. Recent messages resurfaced, revealing that Jones had made disturbing comments about violence against a Republican leader and his children.

In a 2022 conversation, Jones sent a text imagining a scenario where he would shoot then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, calling Gilbert worse than despots like Pol Pot and Hitler, while referring to Gilbert’s children as “fascists.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Diegbe, the Democratic Party of Virginia, as well as Spanberger’s and Sears’s campaigns for comments, but no responses were immediately received.
