Illegal Immigrant Charged with Assaulting Federal Officer

An unlawful immigrant has been charged with assaulting a federal officer after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a police car while trying to avoid arrest. Authorities report that a suspect was killed in the incident, and a deputy was hospitalized after being struck by a bullet from a federal agent during a confrontation.

California’s Republican candidate for governor, Steve Hilton, stated that the attack is indicative of the anti-ICE sentiment and the risks posed by criminals. He expressed his frustration with Democratic leaders, claiming their policies protect wrongdoers rather than law-abiding citizens. “It feels like the system is set up to shield those breaking the law instead of those adhering to it,” Hilton remarked during an interview on “American Report.”

The individual in question, Carlitos Ricardo Parias, originally from Mexico, had previously shared his experiences with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on TikTok, gaining praise from City Council members for raising community awareness.

According to the Department of Justice, Parias had previously managed to evade capture. Officials had set up vehicles to block his path. Upon realizing they were law enforcement, he allegedly reversed and got stuck. Reports indicate he did not comply with orders and repeatedly rammed his vehicle into two police cars, creating a scene filled with smoke and debris. During this altercation, federal agents fired their weapons, accidentally hitting Parias and causing a stray bullet to injure a deputy sheriff, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office statement.

Hilton criticized Democratic lawmakers for prioritizing the rights of illegal immigrants over those who entered the country legally, noting that many legal immigrants express dissatisfaction with the current immigration climate. “They’re tired of ICE being demonized,” he said, emphasizing that he himself is a legal immigrant.

He believes that the rise in violence towards law enforcement is largely due to anti-ICE rhetoric from political leaders. In California, some lawmakers, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have condemned ICE operations. The mayor has called for a congressional investigation into what she deems the unlawful detentions of both citizens and undocumented immigrants.

Homeland Security representatives assert that the rhetoric against ICE promotes dangerous situations for various parties involved. Tricia McLaughlin, the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, indicated that such statements create a perilous environment for both the public and law enforcement. She suggested that these remarks contribute to a culture of resistance among illegal aliens.

Hilton raised concerns about how bad matters must become before officials reconsider their language and approach, reflecting on the dangers posed by the current immigration climate. “The risk on our streets is real, and I find it hard to see where it ends,” he said.
