Controversial Remarks on Gavin Newsom by Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna
Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna made headlines during a podcast on Thursday, stating that California Governor Gavin Newsom exhibits “feminine tendencies” due to his frequent online complaints while the state faces significant issues.
Recently, Newsom and his team have adjusted their messaging, increasingly adopting a style similar to that of former President Donald Trump on social media, while also criticizing the Trump administration and the Republican Party. During a conversation with podcaster Patrick Bette David on the “PBD Podcast,” the discussion turned towards the California Democratic Party, prompting Bette David to comment on Newsom.
“You’re either a great troll, or you’re trying to be,” Bette David noted, pointing out that although Newsom attempts to mirror Trump, he falls short of matching his predecessor’s persona. According to Bette David, Newsom is striving to be the “Trump of the left.”
Luna added that she had recently shared her thoughts on a talk show, where she humorously referenced Newsom while discussing the “No Kings” protests. She recounted, “I joked, ‘If you’re talking about Gavin Newsom, it’s the ‘No Queens’ protests.” When questioned about the potential homophobic implications, she clarified her stance, highlighting what she perceives as Newsom’s feminine traits.
Supporting her views, Bette David echoed Luna’s assessment, describing Newsom as having “metro” tendencies.
As speculation about Newsom’s presidential ambitions in 2028 grows, criticisms of Trump from Democrats seem to be escalating. It appears news outlets are adopting White House strategies, utilizing memes to target their opponents. However, many Californians continue to express skepticism regarding Newsom’s leadership and priorities. A recent poll showed that 54% of 6,201 registered voters believe Newsom is focusing on actions that would benefit him politically rather than effectively governing the state. Only 26% felt he was adequately addressing the state’s pressing challenges.
This polling results come in light of two significant fires in Los Angeles County that caused extensive damage and raised doubts about state leadership. The reported damages exceeded $60 billion, and many residents voiced their frustrations about the slow arrival of promised state aid.
A resident from Pacific Palisades shared experiences of navigating a complex recovery process, dealing with insurance adjusters and contractors without receiving clear answers, as noted by the Los Angeles Times.
As of now, Newsom’s office has not responded to inquiries seeking comments on these remarks.
