Pelosi Confronted Over Capitol Violence Comments
California Representative Nancy Pelosi had a heated exchange with a reporter from Lindell TV. The reporter asked if she bore any responsibility for the violence that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. This confrontation certainly didn’t seem to sit well with Pelosi.
In a separate development, Deputy U.S. Attorney Todd Blanche sent a letter on Thursday aimed at California state officials, urging them not to interfere with federal law enforcement officers who are enforcing immigration laws. This letter was specifically addressed to Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Pelosi, and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. In it, Blanche emphasized that federal officials were merely working within the law and any action from state or local officials to obstruct them would be unlawful.
This correspondence followed comments from Pelosi and Representative Kevin Mullin, who had stated that they might arrest federal officials if they violated California regulations. It’s interesting how Democrats highlighted that former President Donald Trump wouldn’t be able to grant pardons to officials convicted of misconduct.
“The planned mass immigration raids in the Bay Area are a horrific abuse of law enforcement power,” Pelosi, along with Mullin, wrote in their statement. They argued that while the president might feel untouchable, those acting on his behalf would not be shielded.
Blanche took to X to share a warning: “We just sent them a letter. Step aside, or face prosecution. No one will threaten our agents. No one will stop us from making America safe again.”
The letter underscored several federal laws that impose penalties for assaults, obstruction, and conspiracy against federal employees. It also referenced the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, emphasizing that state officials cannot prosecute federal agents for actions taken while performing their duties.
Blanche urged California authorities to keep all records related to any attempts to hinder federal law enforcement, hinting at potential investigations if federal laws were violated. He insisted on the importance of prioritizing public safety over any political posturing.
Pelosi’s office has not yet responded to inquiries for further comment on the matter.
