Denise Richards has clarified that she hasn’t cashed a $1 million check from her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen. She shared a picture of the uncashed check on Instagram, playfully tagging Sheen and adding the Pink Floyd song “Money.” In her Instagram Story, she mentioned, “I found this when I moved recently. I never cashed it in, @CharlieSheen. Still okay?!” The check is dated December 24, 2011, which is five years after their divorce was finalized.
Richards’ post came shortly after Sheen suggested on a podcast that he wrote her a check for $1 million during the time they were together, and she cashed it about a month later. He admitted he couldn’t remember if the check was written while they were still married or after their split. Sheen described it as a symbolic gift, possibly for her birthday, though there’s a bit of confusion because her birthday is in February, while the check is from December.
He mentioned that he thought Richards might not be too upset about her sharing that story. Sheen reflected humorously, stating he once wrote her a million-dollar check as a gag, only to find out later that she cashed it. “That would sting even more…” he remarked.
Richards and Sheen’s marriage began in 2002 and ended in March 2005 while she was pregnant with their second daughter, Laura. Despite a brief reconciliation after their separation, their divorce was finalized in 2006. Since then, their relationship has been rocky, with public disputes on social media and legal battles, like Richards suing Sheen in 2016.
In a more recent context, Richards is currently going through a divorce from Aaron Phypers, whom she has accused of physical and emotional abuse. In court, she shared evidence of a black eye she allegedly sustained during an altercation. Phypers was charged with multiple felonies following an incident last week.
Despite her tumultuous past, Richards seems to maintain a friendly rapport with Sheen, and she’s also on good terms with his ex-wife, Brooke Mueller.
