Denise Richards has refuted claims that she cashed a $1 million check from her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen.
To support her statement, the actress shared a photo of the uncashed check on Instagram, playing the Pink Floyd song “Money” in the background.
In her Instagram Story, she remarked, “I stumbled upon this while packing up for my recent move. I never cashed it, @CharlieSheen. Is it still valid?!”
The check is dated December 24, 2011, which was five years after their divorce was finalized.
This post came shortly after Sheen claimed on a podcast that he wrote her a check for that amount while she was working on her show, which she allegedly cashed shortly after receiving it, leaving him astonished.
While Sheen couldn’t recall the exact timing of the check—whether it was during their marriage or after he said it was meant to be a symbolic birthday gift for her, though he couldn’t remember the specifics.
Interestingly, Richards’ birthday is February 17, yet the check she highlighted is from December.
Sheen commented during the podcast that he didn’t think Richards would be upset about her sharing the story.
“I once made a $1 million check as a joke for her birthday,” he said, but added that she didn’t take it lightly. “A month later, she cashed it. That’s a bit painful,” he explained, mentioning he was just relieved it didn’t bounce.
The couple tied the knot in 2002 but separated in March 2005 while she was pregnant with their second daughter, Laura. They also share a daughter, Sami.
After a brief reconciliation, their divorce was finalized in 2006 amid a tumultuous relationship characterized by public disputes and a lawsuit filed by Richards against Sheen in 2016.
Reflecting on their past during a 2020 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Richards described her pregnancy with Laura as a difficult and toxic time, which ultimately led to her filing for divorce.
Currently, the two maintain a friendly relationship, and Richards also shares a good rapport with Sheen’s third ex-wife, Brooke Mueller.
In her personal life, Richards is going through a divorce from Aaron Phypers after six years of marriage. She has accused him of physical and emotional abuse, even presenting evidence of an injury sustained during an altercation.
Recently, Phypers was arrested and charged with four felonies related to domestic violence and witness intimidation, posting bail shortly after his arrest.
Richards has alleged that her estranged husband attempted to tarnish her reputation by leaking private photographs and claiming he had stolen her computer to expose sensitive information.
