Jack Ciattarelli, a Republican, is gaining traction with some Democrats as he campaigns for the New Jersey gubernatorial seat. The Democratic Party of the New Era, a politically centrist group based in Brooklyn, recently endorsed him, and it appears he has garnered support from at least eight Democrats willing to back his challenge against Representative Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) in the upcoming election.
“We’re excited to endorse Jack Ciattarelli for Governor,” remarked Celia Iervasi, the organization’s president. She emphasized that, given the rising cost of living and New Jersey’s hefty tax rates, Ciattarelli could play a crucial role in making life more manageable for state residents.
She added that they anticipate being part of a broader coalition rallying around Ciattarelli for the election, expressing confidence that his leadership would steer New Jersey toward a better future.
Several Democratic figures have shown their support for Ciattarelli, including North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco, North Bergen City Councilman Allen Pascual, and Dover Mayor Jim Dodd, among others.
This political group has a track record of backing Republicans they consider reasonable, such as Lee Zeldin, who ran for governor of New York in 2022, and Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn), while also aligning with more progressive figures like former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.
In terms of polling data, a recent Rutgers-Eagleton survey indicates that Sherrill currently leads Ciattarelli by five percentage points, which is a noticeable drop from the 20-point advantage she held back in June.
